Call for Panels Now Open

The biennial conference of the Finnish Anthropological Society, Permeable Worlds: Bodies, Places, and Motilities, will take place at the University of Oulu on 14–16 June 2027. Proposals for panels, workshops, roundtables and ethnographic film sessions are welcome until 30 November 2026.

The conference explores how worlds are made and remade through bodies, places and motilities—the embodied capacity, ability, desire or refusal to move. It invites reflection on social and ecological transformations, bringing the anthropology of mobility and migration into dialogue with environmental, political, feminist, Indigenous and multispecies anthropology. Contributions from archaeology, history, human geography and environmental humanities are also encouraged.

The keynote speakers are Professor Ciara Kierans (Aarhus University), Professor Shahram Khosravi (Stockholm University) and Sigga-Marja Magga (University of Oulu). Their work brings perspectives on environmental health, borders and displacement, duodji, Sámi cultural heritage and research ethics.

Proposals may be submitted for either open panels, which invite individual contributions through the subsequent call for papers, or closed panels with participants agreed in advance. Sessions may be held in English or Finnish, and conventional and multimodal formats are welcome. Contributions addressing broader questions and developments in Finnish anthropology are also invited.
